Universal Music's got some beef with Anthropic...

What's it over? You guessed it: alleged copyright infringement.

The situation came to the music giant's attention that Anthropic’s AI, Claude 2, dishes out copyrighted lyrics without proper licensing. This includes tunes like “Roar” and “American Pie”, which other lyric platforms pay for the rights.

Universal is basically saying that this it’s not innovation, it's plain old theft. And what does Anthropic have to say for itself? Well, they’re giving somewhat mixed signals, making a point to dodge certain copyrighted content but not all.

Regardless, this is another example of AI copyright issues heating up. Don't worry, we'll be watching closely to see where it all ends up.

What exactly could cause the beloved late night show host to get cancelled? Apparently, Apple TV and him differed over topics surrounding AI and China.

From what we're told, the tech giant was uncomfortable about certain guests and discussions involving China and AI. They wanted Stewart to be on the same page, but we all know that he has no problem going against the grain.

It’s a shame, since Stewart post-Daily Show was a 2020 win for Apple. Now, we'll have to see how this development effects them.

The biggest question we're asking though is: what exactly does Apple have to fear about China?

🤑 AI FUNDRAISING WRAP UP

  • Baichuan: This Chinese startup from Beijing just secured over $300 million in their Series A1 funding round. Notably, heavyweights like Alibaba, Tencent, and Xiaomi are leading the charge.

    Baichuan has made a mark as a leading AI developer in China, focusing on generative AI and expansive language models, rivaling giants like Microsoft and OpenAI. Since hitting the scene, they've released several LLMs, including four open-source ones.

  • Creative Force: This content-centric company just bagged $8.9 million in their Series A raise. As a result, they're now valued at $56 million, backed by entities like the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark and Hearst Ventures.

    Founded in 2019 in Denmark, Creative Force assists retailers and brands in crafting content for marketing and online sales. Their platform boosts content production, ramping up efficiency by about 30% on average.

  • Reality Defender: This AI startup announced a $15 million raise from their Series A funding round. DCVC spearheaded the investment, joined by backers like Comcast, Ex/ante and Parameter Ventures.

    Reality Defender is focused on creating tools to spot deepfakes and AI-crafted content (talk about product market fit!). They began as a nonprofit, but pivoted towards outside financial backing once they realized just how big of a problem deepfakes are currently and will become.
