🔦 THE AGE OF LLMS IS UPON US
Stanford researchers have developed an AI model called Alpaca. It's built on an open-source language model and cost less than $600 to make!
Alpaca AI performs similarly to ChatGPT on many tasks across a variety of domains. This includes writing emails, social media posts and productivity tools.
(Notably, it even won 90 out of 179 tests against ChatGPT itself)
The team used Meta's open-source LLaMA 7B language model and fed it with 52,000 instruction/output pairs to post-train it to fine-tune the LLaMA model.
They also used GPT-3.5 to provide Alpaca with instructions on how to do its job.
Google, Apple, Meta and other companies are working on developing their own large language models. They will soon be flooding the market.
This will most likely increase competition and supply within the AI sector.
Stanford has released the 52,000 questions used in this research, along with the code for generating more and the code used for fine-tuning the LLaMA model.

🔦 CAN AI PREDICT STARTUP SUCCESS?
With the new advancements in AI, it was only a matter of time until users started looking to it for investing advice.
As a result, retail investors now have a brand new tool to add to their arsenal.
PitchBook has launched a tool called VC Exit Predictor. It uses machine learning algorithms to predict what will happen to venture capital-backed startups.
This includes whether or not it will be acquired, go public, become self-sustaining or go bankrupt.
The tool was trained on PitchBook's internal data set comprised of deal activity, active investors and company details.
It’s been tested on a historical set of companies with known exits, achieving a 74% success rate.
The tool can be used by venture capitalists to evaluate potential investments or by industry players to identify potential IPO candidates.
However, it does have limitations and biases that are inherent in the data it has been trained on.
🔦 RUNWAY’S GEN-2 IS A GAME CHANGER FOR GENERATIVE VIDEO
Runway has announced a new text-to-video generative model called Gen-2. The AI startup will make it available to users in the coming weeks.
Text-to-video AI allows users to type a description and generate a corresponding video in any style they like.
Gen-2 is focused on generating videos from scratch. In the demo above you can see just how powerful this tool can be.
To think, just a few weeks ago Runway had announced Gen-1. Their rate of acceleration is INSANE!
Users will have to sign up to join a waitlist for Gen-2 via Runway's Discord.
The prospect of text-to-video AI is both exciting and scary. While it promises new creative opportunities, there are also new threats of deep fakes.
