PLUS: AI Seinfeld is back!

Happy Monday Everyone!
It’s the start of a new week and we’re ready to get you up to speed on the latest and greatest in the world of AI.

🔦 WHY A SECTION 230 RULING MIGHT RUIN AI

Most people have never heard of Section 230, but it’s crucial to the way the internet works today.
Section 230 provides legal immunity to online platforms that host user-generated content.
Without 230 protection, platforms like Facebook or YouTube would be sued into oblivion.
The Supreme Court is set to reconsider Section 230, and it could have a BIG impact on AI. Here’s what you need to know 👇
The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in Gonzalez vs Google. YouTube is being sued for hosting accounts from foreign terrorists.
The Plaintiff is arguing that Section 230 should not apply in this case since YouTube used their own algorithmic recommendation to promote the videos.
If the Court tightens the limits of Section 230, it could mean that AI-generated answers won't be protected. This means Bing or Google could be liable for any bad response their chatbots provide.
We’ve already seen that Bing’s ‘Sydney’ and Google’s ‘Bard’ are rough around the edges.
If these companies become legally responsible for their outputs, I expect the AI search wars will slow down A LOT…
🔦 AI SEINFELD IS BACK!

It appears our favorite AI-generated, 24 hour television show is returning!
Nothing, Forever (a Seinfeld knockoff) is returning to Twitch after a 2 week ban.
As a reminder, the show was banned for reportedly going against Twitch’s content policies. In a scene, a character alluded to making jokes about Trans people. (NOTE: the jokes were never actually made)
Mismatch Media, the team behind the show, says they have taken some steps after the ban.
They are shifting from OpenAI’s Curie model back to the DaVinci model. This should add more guardrails, though nothing is certain.
The main takeaway here is the importance of who controls the underlying models.
If OpenAI begins putting their thumb on the scale, there is a massive risk of censorship long term.
Users should have the choice on what model they want to leverage.
And platforms like Twitch should embrace this choice.
📊 Do you think the AI Seinfeld show will be less entertaining with the new guardrails? |
