PLUS: Brave releases AI-powered search feature

Happy Friday and welcome back to Big Brain.

We are still the largest AI newsletter. And the AI overlords have still not taken over. (Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž)

šŸ”¦ Today's AI spotlights:

  • The worldā€™s first AI politician

  • Brave releases AI-powered search feature

  • TikTokā€™s controversial AI filter

šŸ”¦ THE WORLDā€™S FIRST AI POLITICIAN

Weā€™ve seen AI act as a lawyer, doctor, and writer.

Now itā€™s trying to take on the world of politicsā€¦

The Romanian PM, Nicolae Ciuca, announced his new AI advisor named ā€œIONā€.

Ionā€™s main task will be scanning social networks to inform the government of the Romanian peoplesā€™ ā€œproposals and wishesā€.

Romanian citizens will also be able to chat with Ion through the projectā€™s website.

Cicua has proudly announced that ION is the first of its kind. But I doubt it will be the last.

AI is excellent at forming opinions based on large amounts of data. This is what a politician must do on a daily basis.

And itā€™s much less likely to change its mind from bribes. šŸ˜‰

šŸ“¢ LEARN TWICE AS MUCH IN HALF THE TIME WITH SHORTFORM

Yesterday was a long day for me.

Between huge announcements from OpenAI & playing around with Midjourney, I was wiped.

It got me thinkingā€¦how much cooler would it be if I had a second brain? Luckily I discovered Building a Second Brain on Shortform.

Since I was too tired to read the actual book, I started with the 1-page summary on Shortform.

But within a few minutes, even that was too tiring. So I pulled out Shortform mobile app and turned on the audio version.

I enjoyed a peaceful walk around lake Austin while listening through my Airpods.

Shortform is quickly becoming one of my top used apps (catching up to ChatGPT)!

šŸ”¦ BRAVE RELEASES AI-POWERED SEARCH FEATURE

Here at Big Brain, we love an underdog story.

Today Google is the clear leader in search, with over 8.5 billion queries a day.

However, Brave search hopes it can use AI to take a bite out of this lead.

Their first step is an AI-powered search feature called ā€œSummarizerā€. The tool will provide a synopsis of each search query using different sources.

Notably, Summarizer will not be built on OpenAIā€™s GPT tech. Instead, they are using their own LLMs.

Today, Brave search only accounts for 22 million queries per day. But their CEO claims that it is the ā€œfastest-growing search engine since bing.ā€

šŸ”¦ TIKTOKā€™S CONTROVERSIAL AI FILTER

TikTok is stirring up controversy again. This time itā€™s for an AI face filter that is going viral.

The filter is called Bold Glamour, and it is a ā€œbeauty filterā€ that alters the facial features of users.

Part of the reason itā€™s getting such strong reactions is because it is SO GOOD.

In this video, you can see a woman rubbing her face while the filter is on. Somehow, the filter manages to stay consistent despite the movements.

Users are worried that this may lead to an increase in ā€œcat fishingā€ or misrepresentation of identity online.

TikTok has also been oddly opaque about the filter, refusing to even confirm that this is part of their AI tool kit.
