Plus: Microsoft extends partnership with OpenAI
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Big Brain, which is officially the fastest growing AI newsletter in the world!
Here's to seeing if we can break 100K before AGI ends my role as a newsletter writer.
🔦 Today's AI spotlights:
Are prompt engineers > software engineers?
Microsoft extends its partnership with OpenAI
NVIDIA releases eye contact feature
🔦 ARE PROMPT ENGINEERS > SOFTWARE ENGINEERS?
To all the idea guys & girls out there... it's finally our time!
That's right, companies are starting to appreciate our ability to think of new ideas. Or at least one of them is.
Anthropic AI, has posted a role for a "Prompt Engineer and Librarian".
As part of this role, you would have the following responsibilities:
Build up a library of high quality prompts or prompt chains to accomplish a variety of tasks.
Build a set of tutorials and interactive tools that teach the art of prompt engineering to our customers.
Recently, the topic of Artificial general intelligence has moved to center stage.
If we can build an AI that replicates the human mind, the value will shift to those that can best leverage this AGI.
The idea of AI replacing software engineers may seem far fetched to some. However, we are already seeing new AI tools like Github's Copilot.
Copilot is an AI pair programmer, and some of the best engineers I know use it religiously.
While there aren't many other prompt engineering roles listed today, I expect that to change soon!
🔦 MICROSOFT EXTENDS PARTNERSHIP WITH OPENAI
Last week, rumors began circulating of Microsoft's plan to invest $10 billion into OpenAI.
Now we finally have more details...
In a blog post titled Microsoft and OpenAI extend partnership, Microsoft laid out it's "third phase" of partnership with OpenAI.
Here are the 3 pillars that Microsoft highlighted as part of this next phase:
1. Supercomputing at scale: Microsoft emphasized their plans to leverage their Azure cloud computing infrastructure. This will help customers build and deploy AI apps at scale.
2. New AI-powered experiences: OpenAI's models will deploy across consumer and enterprise products. This likely includes: Office, Bing, Github, Azure, and more.
3. Exclusive cloud provider: Azure will be the exclusive cloud provider for OpenAI. (Sorry Google and Amazon)
Microsoft made its first investment in OpenAI back in 2019. This article makes it clear that the two companies will be tied at the hip moving forward.
Sam Altman had stated that the Microsoft deal was not exclusive. But, it sure seems like OpenAI won't be working with Google any time soon.
🔦 NVIDIA RELEASES EYE CONTACT FEATURE
Are you the awkward type that doesn't like to make eye contact?
Trust me, I can relate.
However, that might not matter anymore with NVIDIA's latest feature:
The NVIDIA eye contact feature uses AI to make you look into the camera, even when you're not.
Check out the video below to see it in action 👇
