OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed AI giant, is ready to invade DeepMind's turf as it announces its first international branch in none other than London.

The new London office is poised to be a hotbed of research, engineering, and collaboration with local communities and policymakers.

The move is a strategic play, with London being a veritable beehive of AI talent and startups, boasting over 1,300 AI firms and top venture funding in the UK.

But it's not just about the talent. London is a political chessboard where tech companies, like OpenAI, are lobbying for light-touch AI regulation.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman even suggested they might exit the EU if unable to comply with the new AI Act. All eyes are on London as the AI rivalry heats up.

Just about every world power has weighed in on AI regulation and what it should look like...except for the pope.

That is, until now.

The Vatican, paired with Santa Clara University, has released an AI ethics handbook.

They're setting down the gospel for techies grappling with AI's tough moral questions.

Rather than waiting for governments to lay down the law, the handbook is a DIY guide.

It starts with a vague principle, “Our actions are for the Common Good of Humanity and the Environment,” then breaks that down into 46 actionable steps.

The main tenets? Respect for human dignity, data privacy and avoiding an AI-driven apocalypse.

Databricks, the San Francisco tech unicorn valued at a whopping $38 billion, has unveiled an AI assistant that'll give business users an edge.

Called LakehouseIQ, it simplifies data interrogation and lets you ask complex queries in everyday language—no coding required.

Since it's trained on your company's data, it understands the specifics of your business realm. And yes, this includes company-specific jargon.

Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi envisions the AI system as a game changer, making data analytics fast, easy, and accessible to everyone.

In other words, the company is stripping away the complexities and changing how we interact with data.
