🤺 OPENAI TAKES ON NVIDIA

It looks like OpenAI is making a big move: they're looking to produce their own AI chips. And they've even scoped out potential acquisitions! (which remain unknown to the public, as of now).

Currently, Nvidia dominates the AI chip game. What's more, Sam Altman isn't all too pleased about the shortage.

Operating ChatGPT can be extremely pricey. Think billions of dollars if it ends up scaling to the likes of Google search.

While custom chips sound appealing, it's definitely a risky venture. Companies like Google and Amazon have tried, but only to mixed success. Even if OpenAI dives in, they'd still rely on giants like Nvidia for a while.

🧑‍⚖️ THE UK LOOKS INTO SNAP’S “MY AI” OVER PRIVACY CONCERNS

Snap’s "My AI" chatbot has caught the ICO’s attention...and not the good kind.

It's over kids’ privacy issues, with the watchdog suggesting that Snap didn’t thoroughly consider privacy risks for the 13-17 age group before launching.

While Snap claims they did their homework on privacy, some user reports beg to differ. The bot also allegedly gives its users some questionable advice from time to time.

This isn’t the first time a chatbot's tangled with European privacy watchdogs - Replika and ChatGPT had their own share of concerns.

While we can't say where this will all lead, one thing is for certain: as AI grows, privacy continues to take center stage.

🤑 AI FUNDRAISING WRAP UP

Gradient: Based on empowering developers, Gradient announced its public debut with a $10 million funding round. The investment was led by Wing VC and saw participation from several other investors, including Mango Capital and Global Founders Capital.
Gradient is a web-API driven LLM development platform that assists businesses in constructing proprietary AI applications they control. They streamline the process of customizing and expanding open-source LLMs, making fine-tuning and inference effortless with just one API interaction.
Metropolis: This AI-driven parking platform (pun intended) has secured $1.7 billion to acquire SP Plus, a parking management service provider, using a mix of equity and debt. The funding round, led by Eldridge Capital and 3L Capital, includes Metropolis taking $650 million in loans and $1.05 billion in Series C preferred stock financing.
Metropolis is based in LA and was founded in 2017 by Peter Fisher, Alex Israel, Courtney Fukuda and Travis Kell. The company’s goal is to implement real-world applications for AI.
HiddenLayer: This AI security-focused startup just got funded by Booz Allen Hamilton. While no amount was publicly disclosed, the investment seeks to strengthen Booz Allen's adversarial AI portfolio and guard against malicious manipulations of AI algorithms and applications.
Founded in 2022, HiddenLayer offers cybersecurity products to safeguard AI and machine learning algorithms, models, and data. Their platform uses ML to detect malicious activities without needing access to the model or sensitive data.
