NEWS

While actors and writers strike for better wages, Hollywood execs are doubling down on AI programs.

Take Netflix, which is dishing out a staggering $900k for an AI product manager role.

As if that wasn’t enough, a company called Realeyes is offering actors $300 to help train an AI database on human emotions. Talk about “Black Mirror” vibes.

The irony in all of this, is that AI safeguards are at the center of the actors and writers strikes. They’re worried about AI replacing their jobs and/or copying their likeness.

It’s unclear how this will all play out, but it doesn’t appear that the studios are backing down.

When it comes to Microsoft, business is booming!

Their Q4 profits soared by 20%, hitting $20.1B and outperforming Wall Street's guess of $2.55 per share with $2.69.

Their work in AI is of a major contributor, even if it isn't showing on the score sheet yet.

Despite this, MSFT shares took a bit of a dip after the report. But hey, when your cloud business alone rakes in $24B for the quarter, the company isn't sweating it.

And sure, there was a bit of turbulence around the Activision Blizzard deal; but it looks like that'll close after all.

Still, Windows pulled $13.9B this quarter. One can never underestimate the old guard.

ChatGPT's acing the Turing test has experts scrambling to find new ways to assess AI's capabilities.

For those unfamiliar, Turing tests are used to compare machine intelligence to that of humans

So, how did ChatGPT do? It's top-tier in language tasks, but struggles with visual puzzles.

Regardless, this revelation throws a curveball into the AI field. It's unclear if the results reflect genuine reasoning or statistical wizardry.

While some see it as an early form of AGI, others argue that these benchmarks are insufficient and potentially misleading.

The debate rolls on, but one thing's for sure: understanding AI's limits is crucial before letting them loose in real-world applications.
