Proteins: they're kinda like nature's Legos. They build stuff, break stuff; and that "stuff" includes diseases.
For this reason, scientists have been studying ways to manipulate proteins for some time. Unfortunately, designing them in labs has always been a pricey endeavor...
That is, until Microsoft's release of EvoDiff.
Think of EvoDiff like an AI wizard for making proteins without needing a blueprint. And before you even ask, yes, it's open source.
So what's the driving force behind this new tech? Try a 640-parameter model trained on protein data from various species. It's a diffusion model, similar to those that create images.
We don't know about you, but our eyes are peeled on where EvoDiff and applications like it take medicine next.

At its core, AI is interdisciplinary. After all, it’s about the applications for it, rather than the technology itself.
Well, it looks like UT Health San Antonio and UTSA are working this concept into their curriculum.
The two schools are teaming up and launching the first U.S. dual degree in Medicine and AI. The program itself is five years to clinch both Doctor of Medicine and Master in AI titles.
Given the synergy between the two fields, it's no wonder we're seeing this type of degree as one of the first-movers. Already, AI's improving patient treatments, surgeries, and diagnostics. It's even streamlining admin tasks!
The program offers three specializations and research opportunities.
