👍 META SHIFTS FROM THE METAVERSE TO AI

Remember when the Metaverse was all the rage?

Facebook went all in last year, even rebranding the company from Facebook to “Meta”.

But their $36 billion (!) bet hasn’t exactly played out for them.

So it should come as no surprise that Zuck is pivoting to embrace the latest wave: AI.

Zuck previewed Meta’s plans to integrate generative AI into it’s apps including:

  • AI chatbots in Messenger & Whatsapp

  • AI ad creation tools for Facebook and Instagram

  • Digital avatars and video creation with AI

Before Meta is able to support these features, it will first require a MASSIVE overhaul of their infrastructure.

Will Meta pull off a comeback for the ages?

🤖 TIKTOK GOES AI ON ITS AVATARS

Like most companies these days, social media apps have been integrating AI left and right.

TikTok is the latest to do so; except, this time it's not a chatbot.

The company is testing a new tool that allows users to create generative AI avatars in select markets.

Users can choose between 3-10 photos. Then, you select 5 different styles for the tool to use when generating the avatars.

Once created, users can download and share them.

Tools like Lensa have stirred controversy in regards to artists' IP rights...

That's why TikTok is looking to avoid controversy by only testing with a limited tool so far.

The company had previously introduced a text-to-image AI generator in August of 2022.

TINDER BOLSTERS ITS VERIFICATION PROCESS

The era of generative AI has made it easier than ever for the catfishers out there.

As a result, Tinder is upgrading its verification process.

Instead of its Photo Verification feature, the dating app will require a video-selfie. An AI-powered mechanism will then determine the validity the video.

In theory, this should make it harder for spammers and bots to infiltrate the app.

Here's how it works:

The video verification process matches a 3D mapping of a person's facial geometry to their still photo. This ensures it's not a fake or old photo.

In the future, users will be able to restrict their chats and filter their "Likes" page to only show other Photo Verified members.

😰 IS GOOGLE ACTUALLY SCARED OF BING?

It's no secret that Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI puts pressure on Google.

Despite the competition Bing brings, the Google's search revenue has been doing well. It even beat analysts' estimates in Q1.

The company also plans on using its decade worth of experience with AI to keep its current status.
