This past weekend I was in Las Vegas for the UFC fight event. While a lot of jobs may be automated by AI, I don’t see fighters being one.

(Then again, I did enjoy Rock ‘em Sock ‘em robots growing up)

🔦 LINKEDIN & DEEPMIND FOUNDERS SEEK $675M FOR AI STARTUP

Two titans of the tech industry have teamed up and are seeking to build the next big AI company.

Inflection AI, is a company founded by Reid Hoffman and Mustafa Suleyman.

Hoffman is a co-founder of LinkedIn and Suleyman is a co-founder of DeepMind.

On paper, this is as strong of a founding team as anything out there.

And they are trying to use their experience to raise an insane round. $675 million in funding to be exact! 🤯

Despite the strong founders, I do have some concerns about the valuation…

Inflection has yet to release a product. While they claim to be building an “AI personal assistant for the web,” it’s not clear how it is differentiated vs. competitors.

In their defense, they may be able to use this capital to develop something great.

OpenAI (founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman) is a blueprint for what a world class founding team can accomplish over time.

🔦 WILL AI REPLACE DOCTORS?

A new report by the New York Times, has many asking if AI may soon replace doctors.

For years, hospitals in Hungary have been using AI to augment their breast cancer screenings.

And the initial results have been stunning!

In total, there have been more than 35,000 screenings across five hospitals.

The AI is showing an impressive ability to spot cancer at least as well as human radiologists.

In some instances, it has even helped radiologists detect cancer cases that were missed in initial X-ray reviews.

The use of AI cancer detection technology still faces many hurdles before mainstream adoption.

This includes the ability to produce accurate results on women of all ages, ethnicities, and body types. (i.e. handling the edge cases)

In the short term, it appears that this software will have to be used in partnership with trained radiologists.

But in the long term, it’s possible to see a world in which the radiologist role is replaced completely by AI.
