😬 LAWYER IN TROUBLE AFTER USING CHATGPT
Remember when we used to think AI was ready to take over the legal industry? Good times. Well, one lawyer put his trust in ChatGPT and now he's in a hot mess.
He used it for research against Avianca Airlines, and boy, did it backfire! ChatGPT served up 6 cases that, plot twist, didn't exist.
But hey, why verify when you can just ask the chatbot if it's lying, right? Yeah, he did that.
ChatGPT, in its best poker face, insisted all cases were legit. So Schwartz, our lawyer friend, went with it.
And now, he's sweating bullets explaining why he cited a case decided 12 years after its actual date. Schwartz claims he had no clue AI could fib. Poor guy, didn't get the memo that even Bing's been caught telling tall tales.
The lesson here? Always double-check your AI's homework. Trust, but verify, folks. Or you might find yourself explaining to a judge why your AI thinks 'ketchup' has 5 e's.
⚖️ OPENAI LOOKS TO PUBLIC FOR AI REGULATION GUIDANCE
Since the last November, OpenAI has made sure to involve the public in ChatGPT's iterative release.
Now, the company is going even further.
OpenAI is taking steps towards democratizing AI regulation by launching a new grant program. They're offering ten grants of $100,000 each for experiments in defining a democratic process for AI rule-setting.
This program is geared towards individuals, teams and organizations willing to explore AI guardrails. It aims to inform future, larger-scale regulation processes.
While the company claims that the grant program is unrelated to its commercial interests, some skepticism arises due to Sam Altman's recent criticisms of EU AI regulation.
Nevertheless, this program is an interesting move towards more inclusive AI policymaking.
Applications are open until June 24, 9 p.m. PDT, with the requirement of a concept involving at least 500 participants and a public report of findings by October 20.
