NEWS

When Henry Kissinger talks about the intersection of AI and geopolitics, we stop what we're doing and listen.

The famed politician just teamed up with Graham Allison to write about the challenges that AI brings to the global stage.

They discuss concerns from AI altering global power dynamics to potential misuses in large-scale violence. The big question that their piece explores is how history can possibly provide a roadmap.

If we're to take a note from the nuclear age, then the key things to focus on are the following: collaboration, setting standards, and ensuring AI benefits humanity without catastrophic consequences.

Currently, the AI race is dominated by two giants: the US and China. With this comes great responsibility and opportunity to define the future of AI.

NEWS

As Cyberpunk 2077 fanatics know, Projekt Red faced a challenge when actor Miłogost “Miłek” Reczek, the voice behind Viktor Vektor, passed away before the Phantom Liberty DLC was complete.

Now, fans can get a blast from the pass. The beloved game developers partnered with the Kyiv-based tech startup, Respeecher, to replicate Reczek's voice with AI.

Here's how it went down:

After obtaining permission from the late actor's family, Janusz Zadura recorded some new lines while imitating Miłek's signature style. That plus some AI-magic, and wa-la: Viktor was reborn.

Still, this use of AI in the creative industry is sparking debates. Organizations like SAG-AFTRA are playing it safe and advocating for protective measures.

🤑 AI FUNDRAISING WRAP UP
  • Anthropic: This leading AI startup is rumored to be raising $2 billion in funding with Google as a potential investor. This follows Amazon's recent commitment to invest $4 billion in the company, as Anthropic chose AWS for its primary mission-critical operations.

Cofounded by both Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic specializes in creating general AI systems and expansive language models. As a public-benefit corporation, it’s sometimes linked to the effective altruism movement.

(I recently did a post on the ties between infamous fraudster Sam Bankman Fried and Anthropic)

  • Plenful: Centered around healthcare, Plenful unveiled a $9 million funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Cofounder and CEO Joy Liu plan on using the funds to expand the company’s platform, strengthen its 20-member team across various roles, and grow its customer base.

Plenful offers workflow automation tools for healthcare providers, enhancing operations by way of workflow automation, OCR, human-aided AI, and centralized data sourcing.

  • Modal Labs: This cloud platform-startup has secured $16 million in a Series A round led by Redpoint Ventures, alongside other notable investors. CEO Erik Bernhardsson revealed that the funding, pushing the company’s funds to $23 million, will predominantly aid in expanding their team.

Modal Labs provides a cloud-based data infrastructure tailored for AI applications. They enable developers to swiftly deploy AI infrastructure, eliminating the need for piecemeal integrations and saving both time and money.
