Happy Friday everyone!
This was the last full week of April, and I can’t believe how much happened this month. I wrote a thread recapping the biggest launches and its just mind blowing.
Today's AI spotlights:
Intuit gets an AI upgrade 💸
Replit raises $100M 📈
Dropbox does layoffs + pivots to AI 📦
Can AI tell if someone’s hot? 🥵
📢 TODAY’S SPONSOR: BRILLIANT
The best time to level up on AI was yesterday. The second best time? Right now. Fortunately, with Brilliant, you can level up fast and master AI concepts in just 15 minutes a day.
💸 INTUIT GETS AN AI UPGRADE

If you’ve ever filed your taxes or done accounting, chances are that you’ve used a product by Intuit.
They’re responsible for financial products like TurboTax and Quickbooks. (Fun fact, they were also my first employer)
Naturally, they’ve been left wondering how this whole AI thing will effect their multi-billion $ business lines.
Well it turns out that they may be ahead of the curve here. Since they already have 700 AI-related patents and over 730 million customer interactions to train on.
With the right features, Intuit could automate some of the most painful parts of finance (filing taxes, organizing your books, improving credit score).
All I want to know is when will they have an AI finance product that tells me where I’m wasting all of my money. (Hint: it’s DoorDash and AI subscriptions)
📈 REPLIT RAISES $100M
Another startup just got funded big...
Please welcome the next code-generating AI-tool: Ghostwriter.
Replit has raised almost $100 million in a Series B extension. Funding was led by Andreessen Horowitz and included companies like Y Combinator and ARK Ventures.
Replit is an integrated development environment (IDE) that allows programmers to write, run, and collaborate on code. It has over 10 million users worldwide and can manage a variety of coding languages.
So what will Ghostwriter be able to do? The company says it's a suite of AI-powered features that can make suggestions and explain code.
If this sounds familiar, then you might be thinking of GitHub's Copilot, another popular AI coding assistant.
📦 DROPBOX DOES LAYOFFS + PIVOTS TO AI
It looks like the whole "AI is coming for our jobs" thing is hitting some companies already...
Dropbox is laying off 500 employees, which accounts for about 16% of its workforce.
The company made this decision during its pivot to integrate AI into its infrastructure.
As put by the CEO Drew Houston himself: "I’m determined to ensure that Dropbox is at the forefront of the AI era."
The layoffs will free up more capital for Dropbox so that it can focus on early-stage AI-product development.
🥵 CAN AI TELL IF SOMEONE’S HOT?
How long did you think it would take for AI to find its way into dating services?
MSCHF has created a dating website called Hot Chat 3000.
It utilizes AI to analyze your face and then determine your “hotness” on a scale of 1-10. It then matches you with people at your level.
The purpose of this project is to explore the biases of AI and how they can be manipulated.
MSCHF is know for viral marketing stunts like the ATM leaderboard at Art Basel and their big red boot.
Like all of their stunts, there’s a layer of truth in this product. (I.e. I think we will see AI match-making services like this soon)
