Happy Monday Everyone,
This past weekend was a special one, since I got to meet up with Alan in NYC! Alan has been helping write Big Brain for the past few months.
It’s always a great experience meeting internet friends IRL!
Today's AI spotlights:
AI music is about to take over 🎤
Stack Overflow begins charging for training data 💰
Homeland Security gears up for AI 👮♂️

🎤 AI MUSIC IS ABOUT TO TAKE OVER
🔮 Prediction:
We will see at least 5 AI generated songs top the charts by the end of this year.
Don't believe me? Let me explain why I'm going to be right...

Last week we saw a song by Drake and The Weeknd go viral… except it wasn’t actually produced by the artists.
It was entirely generated by AI.
Despite the song’s early traction, it was quickly taken down from Spotify at the request of Universal Music Group.
So at this point it’s not the technology holding back AI music, but the record labels.
But could that be about to change?
Late last night, musical artist (and Elon’s ex) Grimes, tweeted that she would be leaning into AI music.
Specifically, she said she would “split 50% of royalties on any successful AI generated song that uses her voice.”
She even took it a step further and said that they were making a program “to simulate [her] voice well.”
I believe that we are about to see AI music take over the industry in the next few months.
Do you agree? Let me know under my tweet above.

💰STACK OVERFLOW BEGINS CHARGING FOR TRAINING DATA

Popular coding Q&A website Stack Overflow, has announced they will begin charging for their training data.
Why is this a big deal?
One of the most promising early use cases for AI is programming assistants.
Tools like GitHub’s Copilot and Replit’s Ghostwriter, can make developers 10x more productive.
Today those tools only cost $19/month, but that could soon be changing.
If companies like OpenAI and Microsoft need to pay Stack Overflow to use the training data, those increased costs will be passed onto developers.
While the pricing tiers have not been revealed yet, we can get an idea from Twitter. They now charge $42,000/month for access to 50 million tweets.
In my opinion, this is more than a fair arrangement given how much value is provided by other developers on Stack Overflow boards.
🔦 HOMELAND SECURITY GEARS UP FOR AI
Many countries consider AI to be in the "national threat" category.
The United States is no exception.
This past Friday, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary's Alejandro Mayorkas announced the creation of an AI Task Force.
Its purpose is to explore the responsible use of AI in various areas, such as:
Protecting critical infrastructure
Screening cargo for illicit goods
Securing electric grids and water supply systems
Defending against malicious use of AI.
Mayorkas highlighted the potential of AI to drastically alter the threat landscape.
He also acknowledged the need to find a balance between innovation and regulation.
🔦 WANNA WEAR YOUR AI?
Is the future of AI wearable?
Humane seems to think so.
The company has developed a new kind of wearable device built entirely for AI.
It functions as a standalone device, so you don't need a smartphone to operate it.
Some capabilities include:
Accessing email
Calendar invites
Messages
Translation services
Projecting call information onto the user's hand.
As cool as this all sounds, questions about its capabilities and practicality remain. Concerns also center around possible privacy issues.
Regardless, the potential for such a device has generated excitement amongst many for its future release.
