🔦 GM IS BUILDING AN AI ASSISTANT FOR THEIR CARS
General Motors (GM) is working on a new virtual assistant for its cars!
The American automobile company is joining forces with Microsoft and OpenAI. The partnership will involve the integration of ChatGPT-functionalities into each car's virtual assistant.
GM Vice President Scott Miller explained some of these new functionalities.
These include using the chatbot to instruct drivers on changing flat tires, or explaining what a certain diagnostic light means.
The voice assistant won't behave exactly like ChatGPT, as it will be built specifically for vehicles.
GM's decision to get to work on integrating LLMs into their vehicles makes one thing clear:
Even major companies will get left behind if they don't embrace this new Era of AI.

🔦 IS AI TOO EXPENSIVE?
Ever wonder how much it would cost to integrate ChatGPT into your company's workflow?
Latitude doesn't have to wonder.
The AI gaming startup experienced an upsurge in costs after using OpenAI's GPT language technology in its AI Dungeon game.
This created an interesting scenario for Latitude:
The more users played the game, the more successful Latitude became. The downside was how much the company had to pay OpenAI as a result of this.
Additionally, content marketers began using AI Dungeon to generate promotional copies. This only added to Latitude's AI bill.
Let's look at the figures:
In 2021, Latitude spent an unsustainable $200,000 a month to use ChatGPT's tech.
Since this cost was too heavy, Latitude switched to AI21 Labs' cheaper software. They also incorporated open source and free language models to lower the cost even more.
As a result, the generative AI bill has dropped more than 50% to under $100,000 a month.
Hello, margins. 👋
The high cost of machine learning is an uncomfortable reality.
Even post-software training , the upkeep price is vast. This includes running Large Language Models (LLMs), which requires expensive hardware like GPUs.
Analysts estimate that training an LLM like OpenAI's GPT-3 could cost more than $4 million! 😱
This means organizations must make sure they don't bite off more than they can chew when attempting to upgrade their own models.
We hate to be downers, but one thing is clear:
The industry will need to figure out how to lower costs if it wants to see the current AI boom continue booming.
🔦 MOONGATE: SAMSUNG ACCUSED OF AI TRICKERY
Samsung is being accused of faking pictures of the Moon taken on their "Space Zoom"-capable phones.
Original, right?
A Reddit user tested a Samsung S23 Ultra phone's camera by taking a picture of a blurry Moon off of a computer screen.
The resulting photo showed a crisp and clear image of the Moon with added details that weren't present before.
Samsung claims that no image overlaying or texture effects are applied when using their phone cameras.
However, the company has admitted to using AI to "offer a detail enhancing function by reducing blurs and noises." 🤔
