Welcome to Big Brain, your weekly dose of all things AI.

Let's dive into the brainy stuff, like billion-dollar deals, and how they're reshaping the future, one neuron at a time.

Today's AI spotlights:

  • Databricks acquires MosaicML for $1.3 billion 💰

  • BentoML scores $9M in seed funding round 🍱

  • Congress gets serious about ChatGPT restrictions 🚫

📢 FEATURED AI PRODUCT: Guidde

guidde AI is a GPT-powered tool that creates video documentation 11x faster.

Simply click capture on our browser extension and we will automatically generate step-by-step video guides complete with visuals, voiceover and call to actions.

When we wrote about MosaicML in yesterday’s edition, we had no clue we would be covering them again so soon…

Databricks, a data lakehouse vendor, is snapping up MosaicML for a mind-boggling $1.3 billion.

This marks a bold move to democratize AI and make 'lakehouse' the go-to spot for building generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Hold your horses though; while Databricks plans to support, scale, and integrate MosaicML's platform for a unified customer experience, there's no word yet on when the deal will close. (Or when the integration will go live)

It also has us wondering what this means for the future of open source AI projects. (see Twitter thread above for more context)

AI dev framework BentoML just garnered a nice $9M in seed funding.

Chaoyu Yang, BentoML's founder, aims to simplify AI app development.

So how does it do it? The tool targets: Data scientists, DevOp engineers and, Developers

BentoML streamlines the management of multiple ML models and cuts production-ready time.

How long would an app like Visual ChatGPT take? Two days to prep.

Yang’s goal is to make BentoML the "Vercel for AI."

If successful, it could help the data-rich but resource-poor.

Builders will have to figure out a balance between following trends vs. long-term planning.

At the end of the day, it's all an attempt to democratize AI app development. Now that’s something we can get behind.

Congress is getting putting the hammer down when it comes to ChatGPT...

Members of congress are now limited to ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI's paid version.

Why? Enhanced privacy, something we'd think is pretty important for national security.

Here's the rule: use for "research and evaluation", no pasting of non-public text.

The US government isn’t the only entity tightening restrictions on the revolutionary chatbot.

Big names like Samsung and Apple are shying away from generative AI too, fearing data leaks.

Chuck Schumer is pressing for AI regulation. Blumenthal and Hawley are proposing AI companies lose Section 230 protections.

It’s worth noting, no other chatbots have gotten the House's nod, yet.
