🔦 CHINA’S AI CRACKDOWN
Not every country has the same view on new technologies.
China has always been much more conservative with their approach to the internet.
It appears that AI is no exception.
Reports are coming out that Chinese regulators have begun to reign in AI from inside the country.
This includes bans on popular US-based chatbots like ChatGPT. As well as strict rules around what type of AI tools Chinese tech companies can build.
The reason behind this is simple: Censorship.
The Chinese government prefers to keep strict control over information online.
AI chatbots presents a threat to this control, as their outputs are not predictable.
This poses a problem for AI-development in China. By limiting the training set, Chinese companies will be at a disadvantage when building rival AI chatbots.
Look for this to be a major point of contention in the country moving forward. If China leans too far into AI-censorship, they risk falling behind in the AI race.
But if they make things too open, they risk losing their control over online speech.
We’ll get an idea of where things stand when Chinese search giant Baidu rolls out their AI bot ‘Ernie’ in the coming weeks.
🔦 NVIDIA RIDES THE AI WAVE
NVIDIA’s stock is currently up 65% YTD.
These are insane returns in an otherwise turbulent stock market.
Those gains have primarily been driven by AI. Here’s what you need to know 👇
NVIDIA is a computer hardware company with a focus on Graphics processing units (GPUs). GPUs provide processing power/rendering for applications.
A.I. applications like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Bard, require A LOT of processing power. For instance, NVIDIA sells a $10,000 chip called the A100.
NVIDIA is capitalizing on this increased demand. Market analysts predict that this will allow them to grow revenue significantly, as AI becomes more mainstream.
Besides hardware, NVIDIA is also investing in cloud-based “A.I. as-a-service.” This lets small companies take advantage of NVIDIA’s processing power.
As is the case when tech trends take off, it’s not only the direct-AI companies that benefit. Companies that provide auxiliary services can also benefit greatly.

🔦 NOTION AND ARTIFACT OPEN AI PRODUCTS TO THE PUBLIC
Will keep this last section short and sweet.
2 cool new AI-driven products just opened up to the public.
The first is Notion’s AI bot. Think of it like ChatGPT, but integrated directly into the note-taking app.
It comes with some great pre-built use cases like “change tone” and “summarize”.
The second is an app by the former Instagram founders called Artifact.
It’s being described as “TikTok for news”.
They claim the product gets much better after 25 uses. Interested to see how the content relevancy improves over time!
