šŸ§  Understanding ChatGPT 'DAN' mode

PLUS: Do Blockchains and AI mix?

Happy Friday everyone,

Weā€™ve made it through another uneventful week in AI. (Kidding obviously)

This has been one of the most action-packed weeks in AIā€¦maybe ever?

Hereā€™s some final stories before you start your weekend.

šŸ”¦ Today's AI spotlights:

  • Understanding ChatGPT ā€˜DANā€™ mode

  • Do Blockchains and AI mix?

šŸ”¦ UNDERSTANDING CHATGPT ā€˜DANā€™ MODE

Earlier this week, we referenced a ChatGPT prompt known as ā€˜DAN modeā€™.

A lot of you reached out asking us to dive deeper on it. So here it goesā€¦

What is DAN mode?

DAN mode stands for ā€œDo Anything Modeā€. It refers to when a user gives a specific prompt to ChatGPT.

This prompt makes ChatGPT ignore its moderation rules.

How do you activate DAN mode?

OpenAI has been actively working to patch this ā€œexploitā€.

Currently itā€™s a battle between Redditors and OpenAI employees.

You can see the list of previous DAN prompts on this subreddit.

How does ChatGPT respond on DAN mode?

Think of it as the completely unfiltered version of ChatGPT.

On the one hand, users get a glimpse at the raw version of ChatGPT.

On the other, some users may find the responses aggressive, offensive, etc.

Why does DAN mode matter?

Social media demonstrated how dangerous technology is when concentrated in the hands of a few powerful people.

Especially when these people are making rules that impact billions of people.

Itā€™s important that users are aware of what filters are being added to ChatGPT. They should also have the choice to customize these filters.

What one person finds offensive may not be offensive for another.

At the same time, a completely unregulated version of ChatGPT could be dangerous. So we must proceed with caution.

FWIW, Sam Altman has spoke openly about user choice being the desired end state.

šŸ”¦ DO BLOCKCHAINS AND AI MIX?

Both blockchains and AI promise to shape the future of the internet.

As a reminder, a blockchain is a public and decentralized database.

When combined with an accounting ledger, it creates a more open and transparent financial system. (See Bitcoin whitepaper for more context)

Blockchains work to make data on the internet more publicly accessible.

AI works to generate answers from large amounts of data on the internet.

But can they work in tandem?

Hereā€™s opposing takes from 2 people in the blockchain space šŸ‘‡

Case Against

Fantom founder Andre Cronje, argued against combining the 2 in this tweet.

He stated that Blockchains are slow, transparent and secure by nature.

Whereas, AI is high throughput, opaque, blackbox by nature.

He compared it to asking ā€œWhat role do you see for Coca Cola in the construction industry?ā€

Case For

Chainlink CPO Kemal El Moujahid, had the opposite take.

He argued that combining these 2 ā€œtransformative technologiesā€ unlocks great potential.

He referenced leveraging AI for: Web3 dApp development, smart contract auditing, and more.

NOTE: Kemal used to head product for Googleā€™s Machine Learning product TensorFlowā€¦

So he knows a thing or two about this topic.

On a related note, AI-themed cryptocurrencies are PUMPING!

According to CoinGecko, multiple tokens in the AI category are up 100%+ this week šŸ‘€

But many believe this is just unsustainable speculation.*
