📱THE CHATGPT IOS APP IS HERE!

OpenAI finally decided to get with the program and launch an iOS app for ChatGPT. The techies assure us an Android version is also on the horizon.

What's the deal? The app is free and features voice input, thanks to their Whisper model. And for the sentimental types, it syncs your chat history, so you can look back at your AI conversations.

The user base? Some reports suggested ChatGPT hit a whopping 100 million in January. OpenAI, however, remains tight-lipped about the updated active users.

Despite its popularity, the AI chatbot has a few quirks, like its tendency to spew out information with unchecked confidence. The app even warns users not to trust the system's answers blindly.

On the upside, this app should divert some traffic from Microsoft's Bing and potentially put a stop to the flood of fake chatbot apps. Just remember, as the app's welcome screen advises, keep your sensitive info to yourself.

🤖 META DOUBLES DOWN ON AI

Last week saw a number of AI-centric announcements at I/O. Meta must've been watching, 'cause they just announced a slew of their own.

So what's big on the list? For one, the social media giant is developing their own AI chip: the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA). They're eyeing 2025 for a grand reveal.

Two other reveals include the Meta Scalable Video Processor (MSVP) and the Research SuperCluster (RSC). That last one boasts nearly 5 exaflops of computing power (yea, we had to look that one up too).

On the coding side, Meta is releasing CodeCompose, similar to Microsoft's CoPilot. It's handy, but don't expect it to navigate around copyright issues or security vulnerabilities.

Now, here's the kicker. While companies like Google and OpenAI are keeping their code proprietary, Meta's decided to go the other way. They released their AI chatbot tech, LLaMA, as open-source.

Critics are worried about misuse, but Meta's Chief AI Scientist, Yann LeCun, is optimistic. He thinks an open-source approach will keep Meta relevant and speed up AI progress.

Here's to hoping his optimism isn't misplaced.

👨‍🏫 TEXAS A&M PROFESSOR FREAKS OUT OVER AI

We get it, AI is everywhere these days...but does that mean that college professors should blame it for everything?

Apparently one person believes so.

On Monday, a Texas A&M University professor mistakenly accused his entire class of using AI to write their final papers.

His evidence? He asked ChatGPT to evaluate whether or not students’ three last papers were written by a chatbot. The LLM responded in the affirmative.

In a somewhat perplexing email, the professor told his class they were all getting an "X" for incomplete. Many students were, shocked, to say the least.

A student's fiancé took to Reddit, stating his partner had never even heard of ChatGPT before.

The students rallied, providing timestamps and other proof of their innocence.

The prof's response? "I don't grade AI bull****."

In a twist, one student admitted using ChatGPT, though not for the final paper. The university assured everyone no one failed and that they'd investigate the situation further.
