Today is all about major AI announcements. The first is from a familiar name, the second is from an upstart who just came out of stealth.

🔦 OPENAI’S MASSIVE CHATGPT ANNOUNCEMENT

It’s been over a week since we received a major update from OpenAI.

Which means we were due for something big (based on their breakneck pace)!

The team delivered by dropping a jam-packed announcement about their ChatGPT and Whisper APIs.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

• ChatGPT and Whisper models are now available via API. This gives all developers access to cutting-edge language and speech-to-text capabilities.

• OpenAI highlighted 5 early users of their ChatGPT API. These included Snapchat, Quizlet, Instacart, Shopify, and Speak.

• OpenAI has cut costs for ChatGPT by 90% since December. These cost savings are being passed on to customers. It will now only be $0.0002 per 1k tokens (10x cheaper than existing GPT-3.5 models)

OpenAI also mentioned major upgrades to the ChatGPT models and dedicated instances.

Lastly, they had an entire section called developer focus.

They mentioned improving uptime, having a default 30-day retention policy and developer documentation.

🔦 TYPEFACE RAISES $65 MILLION ROUND FOR ENTERPRISE AI

Another day, another HUGE fundraising announcement by an AI company.

Typeface, is a startup that provides generative AI tools to help companies create content that fits their brand.

They now have a massive war chest of $65 million to pursue their mission.

One might ask, what justifies this kind of valuation for a company this early?

Well for starters, they are founded by the former CTO of Adobe, Abhay Parasnis.

Parasnis claims the company already has strong early traction with customers. Which is important since this space will grow to more than $110 billion by 2030.

They will have their work cut out to grow into this valuation. They face stiff competition, including from OpenAI.

Last week, OpenAI inked a deal with Coca-Cola to leverage ChatGPT and Dall-E 2 for their corporate content.

In my eyes, this is a sign we might be on the verge of another investment bubble.

While AI will create a ton of value, this product doesn’t seem differentiated enough to justify such a high valuation.
