Happy Friday Big Brain fam!

I live down in Austin, and yesterday it was 85 degrees outside. So I think it’s safe to say summer has arrived.

So remember to step away from the cool AI tools occasionally, and go outside to “touch some grass”.

Today's AI spotlights:

  • Bing chat transforms with visual AI 🖼️

  • LexisNexis gets an AI upgrade 🦾

  • The White House announces funding for AI research 🔬

🖼️ BING CHAT TRANSFORMS WITH VISUAL AI

Microsoft's Bing is going AI crazy, and it's gonna be more visual than a teenage Instagram influencer. Bing Chat, the AI chatbot, has been chatting up a storm with over half a billion convos and generating 200 million images for over 100 million daily users!

Now, Bing is stepping up its game with image- and graphic-centric answers in Bing Chat, making it more personal and interactive. Think of it as a blend of Google's "knowledge panels" and a well-behaved AI chatbot that (hopefully) won't spout misinformation or write hateful screeds.

Microsoft is unleashing this new Bing Chat waitlist-free, so you can try it out and experience the visual transformation of search. But don't expect perfection; it's still a work in progress. You'll get more visual answers and context, but you might also get some questionable content – the company did lay off its ethics and society team a few months ago, after all.

Bing Chat is becoming an all-in-one productivity platform with chart creation and text-to-image generation capabilities. Generative art AI is a hot topic, but Microsoft isn't committing to compensating creators for using their work in training data just yet.

Expect Edge to get some Bing Chat action, too, with actions that can automate tasks and organize your digital life. Lastly, keep your eyes peeled for Microsoft Build, where more AI magic is sure to be revealed.

🦾 LEXISNEXIS GETS AN AI UPGRADE

Looks like LexisNexis finally joined the AI party.

The analytics company is launching Lexis+ AI, a new tool for enhancing legal research and workflows. It'll do things like:

  • Answer legal questions

  • Summarize issues

  • Draft documents.

It also uses multiple LLMs for better performance. As they say, diversification is key.

Once it's public, Lexis+ AI will be a standalone product. No subscription required. 👌

Keep in mind, LexisNexis is no stranger to AI. They already have products like Lexis Answers and Lexis Brief Analysis.

The difference this time? Lexis+ AI is all about generative AI.

The development is definitely turning heads. Thomson Reuters, a competitor of LexisNexis, is saying it will be investing $100 million per year in AI.

For now, only some fancy law firms get to try Lexis+ AI. The rest have to wait for summer. 😢

🔬 THE WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR AI RESEARCH

With so many governments rushing to regulate AI, some might say that the US has been a bit behind.

Not anymore.

The Biden administration met with folks from major tech companies this week. And it sounds like...progress was made!

How do we know?

Here are some key takeaways:

The Biden administration also noted that the AI Bill of Rights blueprint will aim for anti-discrimination and privacy protection.
