🔦 BING ADDS SOME ADS TO AI CHAT

Ads and search engines: a match made in heaven...right? 🤔

Enter Bing's new advertising initiative.

Microsoft is introducing ads to its AI-powered search engine to drive more traffic to publishers and explore new sources of ad revenue.

The ads currently appear as small blue superscript text next to a word in the search box.

It remains unclear whether or not the ads are the source of the information.

It's also possible that the companies are paying to have them placed next to pertinent content.

Caitlin Roulston is the director of communications at Microsoft. She said there will be "variability" in how the ads will show up.

The move comes after a years-long effort by Microsoft to reinvent its search engine.

🔦 DATADOME BRINGS HOME THE BACON

Another day, another AI-initiative funded.

DataDome has raised $42 million in a Series C round led by InfraVia Growth.

The company leverages AI models to spot malicious bots. It then uses data mining to infer what caused the change.

These bots analyze traffic requests in real time using techniques like vulnerability scanning rules, device fingerprinting and behavioral analysis.

The company's platform works with existing applications.

In addition to rolling out its CAPTCHA product, DataDome's focus has been AI models for improved bot-blocking analytic tools.

It claims to have customers in industries such as e-commerce, media, ticketing, healthcare and the public sector.

🔦 THE CAIDP ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE OPENAI

The The Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) has filed a complaint with the FTC for an investigation into OpenAI.

The alleged crime?

LLM development.

The CAIDP says OpenAI's recently released GPT4 model is biased, deceptive and a risk to public safety.

The complaint argues that GPT4 fails to meet the FTC's guidance for AI systems. This includes:

• transparency

• explainability

• fairness

• empirical soundness while fostering accountability.

The CAIDP claims that GPT4 launched without any independent assessment and without a way for outsiders to replicate OpenAI's results.

AI experts are divided in their level of concern about future LLM models.

However, one thing is agreed upon by them:

Policymakers need to catch up to properly regulate AI-development.
