🔦 GOOGLE BOTCHES BARD DEMO

Microsoft has made it clear they are coming for Google’s search empire.

Between the $10 billion investment in OpenAI, a new Bing (powered by GPT-4), and a redesigned Edge browser, Microsoft has been on a tear.

Yesterday was Google’s moment to hit back and prove that they’re still boss.

So how did it go?

Well in short, it was a disaster:

• First the team lost the Pixel phone needed for the demo.

• Then Bard made a factual error during the demo. (It falsely claimed the James Webb Space telescope “took the first picture of a planet outside our solar system”)

• Lastly, Alphabet’s stock dropped -7% following the event! (This wiped $100B from it’s market cap 🤯)

While it’s easy to get caught up in the moment, it’s important to zoom out.

Google still has some of the best AI/ML tech on the market.

They also account for ~84% share of global search.

Bard might not be off to a hot start, but to quote UFC fighter Conor McGregor:

There’s no shortage of talent flowing into AI.

The newest entrants to the space are a pair of tech industry vets.

Bret Taylor (fmr. Salesforce Co-CEO, Facebook CTO) has teamed up with Clay Bavor (fmr VP of Google Labs) to launch an AI startup.

While the startup remains in “stealth mode,” Bret had some interesting things to say in his LinkedIn post.

This part in particular stood out to me 👇

These are big words coming from someone with Bret’s background.

He has seen some of the most important tech movements in recent history.

Regardless of what these two launch, I expect they will have no trouble recruiting others to join them.

If you’ve ever heard Eminem rap, you know he’s impossible to mistake…Or is he?

Well some rave attendees were fooled this past week.

Famous EDM musician David Guetta, recently shared a clip from his concert. In it is a verse of Eminem rapping.

Only it’s not the real Eminem. It’s a clip that Guetta said he made as a joke on an AI audio website.

Immediately there was backlash in the comment section. To which, he quickly replied “obviously I won’t release this commercially😃”.

Guetta says that he has recently become obsessed with AI technology.

It’s cool to see just how widespread the attention is on AI.
