Happy Tuesday Big Brain Fam!
I know this is an AI newsletter, but we HAVE to cover Apple’s massive key note. (Don’t worry, they dropped some “Machine Learning” treats throughout the event)
Today's AI spotlights:

😎 The Apple Vision Pro Is Here

Apple's WWDC 2023 was a spectacle, but one thing stood out: Apple didn't say "AI." Instead, they kept saying "machine learning".
They even talked about "transformer models" and on-device processing powered by their Neural Engine. They flaunted this with features like the new iPad lock screen, AirPods Adaptive Audio feature, and an Apple Watch widget feature called Smart Stack.
Even their new app, Journal, uses on-device machine learning but they avoided using the term "AI".
Now, let's talk about the game-changer: Apple Vision Pro. This is not just a headset; it's a portal to a new reality.
With features like 'Optic ID' Iris Scanning Authentication and prescription inserts for glasses wearers, it's clear they're aiming high.
Plus, the image of your eyes moving on the goggles? That's machine learning magic right there. Apple might not be saying "AI," but they're reshaping the tech landscape one machine learning innovation at a time.
Question is, are you willing to pay $3,499 for a taste of the future?
🌎 OPENAI CEO FEELS HOPEFUL AFTER WORLD TOUR
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is touring the globe and on a mission. His objective?Mitigate the risks of AI.
Meeting with world leaders, he's sparking conversations about the future of AI and how to actually make this a reality.
In these talks, he’s juggling the rapid pace of AI innovation with pressing safety concerns. Altman suggests creating a global organization to monitor AI, which would be akin to the international nuclear agency.
Ironically, he opposes heavy regulations, even as AI chatbots threaten to outsmart humans. While many see this as a concern, others see it as necessary to fostering positive innovations.
Israel is also diving headfirst into the AI realm, aiming to become a global power in AI like it did in cybersecurity. Netanyahu, joining the conversation, engaged Altman and Elon Musk over the phone.
🇯🇵 JAPAN SAYS IT WON’T ENFORCE AI COPYRIGHT LAWS
While the US is slowly making its way towards AI regulation, Japan is already breaking new ground.
A Japanese official announced that it won't enforce copyrights for training AI. This unprecedented stance suggests data from any source is fair game for "information analysis."
The shift in policy impacts generative AI programs like ChatGPT and Midjourney, which feed on massive internet data to build algorithms.
Unsurprisingly, this raised significant concerns for photographers whose online work can now be used without consent.
However, Japan's no-enforcement policy is a double-edged sword. While it potentially undermines the rights of copyright holders, companies like OpenAI stand to benefit substantially from such regulation.
One example of AI-related IP issues is the Getty Images/Stability AI situation.
Meanwhile, Midjourney's founder confessed to using countless images without consent, causing an uproar among photographers and artists.
