Chat it up, folks! Anthropic's AI chatbot, Claude 2, is now available for more public testing in the US and UK.
Billed as "friendly and enthusiastic," Claude can generate summaries, write code, translate text, and more. Its humor and conversational style set it apart from competitors.
Plus, it boasts a self-governing 'constitution' for response revision, rather than relying on human moderation.
A marked improvement over Claude 1.3, Claude 2 displays increased skills in math, coding, and reasoning, scoring 76.5% on a bar exam multiple-choice section.
Still offline and trained on data only until December 2022, it nevertheless outperforms ChatGPT with a 75,000-word context window. Here's hoping Claude's charm doesn't get lost in translation.
Is ChatGPT about to get some new competition? It looks like it might!
Baichuan Intelligence, has launched Baichuan-13B, a new LLM. Baichuan is on the fast track, launching just three months ago and already raising $50 million.
The 13 billion-parameter model (for comparison, ChatGPT 3.5 uses 175 billion) is open source and designed for commercial use.
The model's availability to approved academics and developers could be a game-changer, particularly with the backdrop of U.S. AI chip sanctions on China.
However, with China's anticipated stringent AI regulations, companies may need a license before launching large language models.
We knew AI would usher in some pretty cool stuff, but some of it is happening sooner than expected...
Case in point? Scientists can now generate new proteins using AI.
David Juergens at UW in Seattle used a tool called RFdiffusion to design proteins that evolution never did.
We're not just talking theoretically here. This tech has the ability to create vaccines, therapeutics, and biomaterials. Think Midjourney, but for real-life proteins instead.
Early tests suggest a solid chunk of the proteins perform as intended.
And now, the sky is the limit! Imagine building a protein structure to solve a problem. It's essentially a more complex version of legos.
So what's next? Finding out the best ways to use this new tool, of course.
