🌎 MARC ANDREESSEN SAYS AI WILL SAVE THE WORLD
Marc Andreessen, the godfather of modern tech, just dropped some knowledge on us about AI.
Folks, this is the guy who co-authored Mosaic, the first widely used web browser, and co-founded Netscape. He’s a venture capital heavy-hitter with Andreessen Horowitz, and he's put his chips on the table for AI.
Andreessen's take? AI isn’t a villainous software out of a sci-fi flick. It's more like an everything-enhancer, from the coding trenches to the artist's studio.
He's pitching AI as a booster shot for human intellect. We've got early winners already, like ChatGPT. And Andreessen's betting the farm that this is just the beginning.
His vision? An AI buddy for everyone - kids, professionals, leaders, you name it. This is a world where productivity skyrockets, scientific breakthroughs multiply, and the arts experience a renaissance.
Andreessen is clear - the stakes are astronomical, the opportunities, colossal. He ranks AI right up there with electricity and microchips, and makes a strong case that embracing it is our moral obligation.
With Andreessen's track record, this isn't just another op-ed, it's a call to action for a better world powered by AI.
📚 THE SENATE IS GETTING READY TO GO TO AI SCHOOL
Do you think it's possible to teach an old dog some new tricks? We sure hope so...
The Senate is buckling up for a deep dive into artificial intelligence with three bipartisan briefings.
The aim? To keep pace with this rapidly advancing tech.
Here's their plan: Three private meetings on AI, including a classified briefing. This is a clear sign of Congress's intent to grapple with the growing impact of this new tech.
In a letter from leading senators Schumer, Rounds, Heinrich, and Young, the Senate intends to address three key areas across these sessions:
The current state of AI
The trajectory for the burgeoning technology
A classified meeting that aims to assess how AI is employed in national security and how much we know about our adversaries' level of AI tech.
The exact details - dates, times, speakers - aren't disclosed yet.
Schumer has earlier hinted at a regulatory move for this emergent tech. We're still awaiting legislative text, but its arrival will mark a significant stride for a Senate often left lagging by tech changes.
🤖 MAJOR NEWS OUTLET CLARIFIES HOW IT CONTINUE TO USE AI
Remember the storm when CNET started churning out AI-written articles?
They’re now making some major shifts in its AI policy. Specifically, they’re putting an end to additional AI-solo articles.
Instead, CNET is rehashing an old tool: "Responsible AI Machine Partner" (RAMP). This way, the AI won't be left to its own devices (Sorry, we had to).
The company is keen on using the tool to leverage AI for tasks like data analysis and story outlining in a responsible manner.
They've also went back and updated the previous AI-generated stories - over 70, in fact! Most had to be corrected, so they all come with an editor's note - "AI-assisted," to be precise.
Red Ventures, the company that owns CNET, has similar AI shenanigans going on at other sites (SEO baits, affiliate ads, etc).
Striking a balance when it comes to AI in journalism is indeed a tricky task. Time will tell if CNET is able to stick the landing or not.
