🔦 ALIBABA LAUNCHES CHATGPT COMPETITOR
Alibaba is once again in the headlines this week.
The Chinese tech giant has unveiled its latest AI LLM, Tongyi Qianwen.
According to the Financial Times, this translates as "truth from a thousand questions".
Tongyi Qianwen will be incorporated across Alibaba’s suite of apps. Including as a coding assistant (similar to Github’s Copilot).
Alibaba demonstrated how the new chatbot is being used in its workplace chat-app, Dingtalk. This includes:
Summarizing chat history
Generating corporate culture slogans
Writing meeting minutes
Converting handwritten charts to mini apps.
Alibaba's main goal is to make computing and AI services more accessible for enterprises and developers.
With all of these developments from China, the government also had some news.
China's top internet watchdog has released draft measures to regulate AI models. This includes:
Requirements for algorithm registration
User identity verification
Record-keeping of data input.
The proposed regulations align with previous regulations introduced to regulate other aspects of AI in China.
🔦 CHATGPT FACES LEGAL WOES
Our readers shouldn't be surprised to hear that ChatGPT is facing legal challenges worldwide.
We now have the biggest legal development since Italy's ban…
The CAIDP has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission to halt the development of new models of ChatGPT.
This is adding to legal actions and regulatory scrutiny in various countries.
Now countries such as Germany, Canada, and France are taking actions against ChatGPT related to data privacy concerns.
OpenAI has published FAQs and reaffirmed its commitment to safety, accuracy, and privacy for its systems.
Even so, ChatGPT users may have to watch out, as they could be personally liable for issues arising from its use.
OpenAI and other AI companies are also facing additional legal challenges. This includes defamation, class action lawsuits and copyright infringement cases.
This and ensuing developments could potentially impact the future of AI development.
🔦 AI RESCUES THE FASHION INDUSTRY
Like many industries, fashion is full of counterfeit-shenanigans.
Yup, you guessed it: AI to the rescue!
Luxury brand Patou is using an AI-powered authentication system called Authentique. Created by Ordre, the protocol combats counterfeit products in the fashion industry.
Authentique allows customers to verify the authenticity of a Patou product using a phone camera and an app.
So how does it work?
Authentique creates a digital fingerprint of designated areas of its products during productio. It can then be verified later by customers using an app.
The technology is currently able to authenticate clothing, shoes, and small leather goods. Patou plans to expand to watches and jewelry in the future.

🔦 BING PLUG-INS? STAY TUNED…
While it might seem like ages ago, ChatGPT added plug-in support last month. This has greatly augmented its usability.
So should it be any surprise that Bing is looking to do the same?
When it comes to timing, all we got were two words from Microsoft’s Mikhail Parakhin:
“Stay tuned”.
