📺 THE FIRST AI POLITICAL AD
Earlier today, President Joe Biden announced his plans to run for re-election.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) responded with their own video calling out Joe Biden.
This is normal for politics…but what wasn’t normal was how the video was created.
Instead of using real footage, the RNC created the video entirely using AI.
If we zoom out and look at the bigger picture here, it’s worth considering that 2024 will be the first major US election in the post-GPT era.
How will recent AI advancements effect the upcoming election? It’s impossible to say for sure, but it’s likely that we aren’t fully prepared for what is to come.
👀 2 BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM CHATGPT
It’s been a while since we received new announcements from ChatGPT, but we got 2 updates this morning.
1) ChatGPT will soon be launching a new tier called ChatGPT Business: This tier will offer professionals more control over their data & businesses will better be able to manage end users.
2) ChatGPT will now allow users to turn off chat history: The key here is that convos started when history is disabled won’t be used to train & improve OpenAI’s models.
While ChatGPT has had massive success from an adoption perspective (100M users), they are still struggling on the bottom-line front.
ChatGPT is incredibly expensive to run, and they are probably losing money on the product.
By offering new tiers and incentivizing more users to sign up for ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI will hopefully be able to grow their revenue enough to offset costs.
🤗 HUGGING FACE RELEASES CHATGPT RIVAL
We've been seeing a lot of open source chatbots come about recently…
Open-source AI platform Hugging Face just released their own: HuggingChat.
HuggingChat can perform tasks like ChatGPT, such as:
Writing code
Drafting emails
Composing lyrics.
It can also be integrated with existing apps and services via its API.
Like other chatbots, HuggingChat has limitations. It can sometimes produce inaccurate or inappropriate responses to certain questions.
HuggingChat is developed by Open Assistant. The German nonprofit aims to build a personalized AI assistant that runs on consumer hardware.
👨🏫 HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER BUILDS PUBLIC AI NETWORK
Speaking of open source...
LAION (Large-scale AI Open Network) is a free AI training dataset that is available for anyone to use.
It's founded by a high school teacher and a team of volunteers (bravo!). It's the largest free dataset of images and captions, using over 5 billion image-text pairs.
LAION has even been used by other for-profit entities. For instance, Stability AI used it for their flagship AI image generator, Stable Diffusion. (That company is now valued at $4 billion)
The use of public data has raised legal and ethical questions in regards to copyright infringement.
Should creators be paid for their content, given how valuable its proving to be?
Many questions remain as LAION and others act as catalysts for answers.
