PLUS: Google launches a game changer for music
Happy Monday fellow Big Brains,
The theme of today's edition will be analyzing whether AI can disrupt different industries.
One example is music and the other is adult entertainment. But don't worry, we keep the analysis PG.
Let's get into it!
🔦 Today's AI spotlights:
AI is coming for OnlyFans
Could Google change the music industry?
🔦 AI IS COMING FOR ONLYFANS
Have you ever put out a tweet that started a debate among millions of people?
Well... it appears I did that on Saturday when I tweeted the prediction below 👇
Was this tweet intended to drive engagement? Yes.
Was the prediction timeline and number a bit exaggerated? Maybe.
But this dystopian future may not be as unlikely as some believe. Let's consider some facts:
OnlyFans (which primarily hosts explicit content) is a fast growing business. Last year, users spent $4.8 billion on the platform.
There's been rumors that some of the larger accounts, outsource their private chats to workers overseas. (This makes sense considering it's impossible to respond to thousands of messages each day)
As AI image generation tools continue to improve, it will be increasingly difficult to distinguish a human from a bot online. Even on video chat.
The biggest pushback from adult creators was that platforms like OnlyFans enforce strict KYC... But will this be enough?
There's also the moral argument.
What does the fate of humanity look like if people begin seeking emotional (and physical) connection to robots?
Like many areas that AI touches, this is a topic that is both uncomfortable yet important to consider.
🔦 COULD GOOGLE CHANGE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
Music has always been made from voices and instruments.
But could it one day be made entirely from text?
That's what Google is attempting to do with their latest project: MusicLM.
Here's how it works:
An artist begins by giving the model a text description to generate a music clip. An example: "a calming violin melody backed by a distorted guitar riff".
The artist can also provide a melody input by whistling or humming. (Oddly enough, an artist can even provide an image for inspiration)
The model then produces music at 24kHz that remains consistent over several minutes.
The team provides examples on their website and they are impressive.
While Google does not plan to release the tool publicly yet, this may provide a glimpse at the future of music creation.
Some music artists may balk at this notion, but I think it provides an opportunity for other types of creators to enter the space.
Imagine a music album produced entirely by Shakespeare. Makes you think...
