PLUS: Elon plans ChatGPT rival

Greetings humans and AI robots. (Did I just repeat myself?)

Yesterday 5 of you voted it was ā€œsmall brain contentā€. So you know I had to bring the heat today!

Luckily there was a ton of AI news to cover.

šŸ”¦ SCIENTISTS ARE MAKING AI FROM HUMAN BRAIN CELLS

When I came up with the name ā€˜Big Brainā€™, I didnā€™t expect to be one day covering AI made from brain cellsā€¦ And yet here we are!

An article published by Frontiers, details a new technology called Organoid Intelligence (OI).

The idea is that instead of processing information on silicon hardware, we can use 3D cultures of human brain cells instead.

Trippy stuff.

But in a weird way, this all sort of makes sense. The ultimate pursuit of AI is to replicate the human mind.

Despite the advances over the years, we are still not close to replicating the true power of the human brain.

According to the paper, the average mind can store an estimated 2,500 terabytes of information and has over 100 billion neurons.

If we are to bridge the gap, we need to innovate at both the digital as well as physical level.

šŸ”¦ ELON PLANS CHATGPT RIVAL

When Elonā€™s not trolling on Twitter or launching rockets into space, he spends a lot of time thinking about AI.

Heā€™s on the record saying that AI is the ā€œbiggest existential threat to humankindā€.

And he even helped co-found OpenAI in 2015, to make sure that AI was developed in a safe way.

But it appears Elon is not happy with the direction the company has taken.

He stepped away from the OpenAI in 2018 citing ā€œdisagreements with its leadership around the time it launched its for-profit armā€.

Heā€™s also recently expressed frustration with the bias being built into ChatGPT.

After ChatGPT refused to tell a joke in Dave Chapelle style, Elon tweeted ā€œWhat we need is TruthGPTā€.

Similar to the Twitter situation, it appears Elon is putting his money where his mouth is.

He has reportedly been recruiting researcher Igor Babuschkin to work on a competitor. (Note: Igor recently left Googleā€™s DeepMind division)

Itā€™s great that Elon is pushing to build another alternative to ChatGPT.

The last thing we want is one powerful company deciding the future of AIā€¦and humanity.

šŸ”¦ NVIDIA RIVAL SEEKS $400M VALUATION, LAUNCHES A.I. CHIP

Lately weā€™ve talked a lot about the economics behind artificial intelligence.

Powering the entire industry, is the infrastructure layer that provides computing power.

There are a few key players in this space, most notably Nvidia.

But a new South Korean rival is making moves.

Sapeon, is reportedly raising a round that would value the company at $400 million.

The firm designs artificial intelligence semiconductors for data centers. They expect the demand for their product to explode with the ongoing AI wave.

Whether or not they can take any considerable market share from Nvidia remains to be seen.

But if they could capture even a small fraction of the market, it could allow them to rake in A LOT of money.
