Big news in the tech world: Uncle Sam's got his eye on AI chip exports to China, and he's not happy.
The Biden administration is considering slamming the brakes on shipments from big players like Nvidia, Micron, and AMD, potentially as soon as July.
This isn't a new dance: Nvidia had to stop exporting two of its top computing chips for AI work last September. They even rolled out a new chip, the A800, specifically to comply with export control rules.
Wall Street's reacting with jitters, as Nvidia and AMD shares fell 2% and 1.5% respectively in extended trading. Tech companies, stuck in the crossfire of global politics, are being forced to pivot and adapt in real time.
What's that we hear? AI is knocking on almost ever industry's door.
Luckily, MSCI ranked which ones will open widest, based on a report from Goldman Sachs.
Office roles top the list (46% automation potential). Think data entry, scheduling and doc management.
Legal's up next (44%), with contract analysis and court case predictions ripe for AI shakeup.
So what's more or less safe? Jobs that involve manual labor, like production and construction.
Goldman's aggressive view sees 300M jobs impacted, boosting annual GDP by 7% ($7T).
All in all, investors can't afford to hit snooze on the AI alarm. MSCI's new Robotics & AI Index is their caffeine shot.
GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has a message: AI is now every coder's co-pilot.
In a world dominated by software, AI tools are becoming a standard part of every developer's toolkit.
Using GitHub's AI-based Copilot, developers are accepting almost 30% of code suggestions. And these rates are only increasing with more usage.
Most notably, less experienced coders find Copilot particularly handy. In fact, GitHub predicts that AI could contribute to writing 80% of code in the future.
And what's more, AI-powered dev tools could add $1.5T to global GDP by 2030.
In other words, AI isn't just a co-pilot, it's the fuel for the future.
